Background and Additional Info

Background: Parkin is an E3 ubiquitin ligase that plays a central role in maintaining cellular protein homeostasis and mitochondrial quality control through the ubiquitin-proteasome system. Upon mitochondrial damage, Parkin is recruited to dysfunctional mitochondria where it promotes the ubiquitylation of mitochondrial proteins and facilitates mitophagy. Mutations in the PARK2 gene are a well-established cause of autosomal recessive juvenile Parkinsonism, making Parkin a key target in neurodegeneration research. Parkin is widely studied in pathways related to mitochondrial dynamics, oxidative stress, protein turnover, and cell survival. Recombinant Parkin proteins are valuable tools for investigating ubiquitin signaling, mitophagy mechanisms, and Parkinson’s disease biology.
