Background and Additional Info

Background: E6AP (UBE3A) is a HECT-domain E3 ubiquitin ligase that plays a critical role in the ubiquitin-proteasome system by mediating the transfer of ubiquitin to substrate proteins, thereby regulating their stability, localization, and function. UBE3A is highly expressed in the brain and is essential for normal neuronal development and synaptic function. Dysregulation of UBE3A has been implicated in several neurological disorders, including Angelman syndrome, which results from loss of maternal UBE3A expression, and certain autism spectrum disorders associated with altered gene dosage. E6AP was originally identified through its interaction with the E6 oncoprotein of high-risk human papillomaviruses (HPVs), which promotes ubiquitin-mediated degradation of the tumor suppressor p53. Recombinant E6AP is a valuable tool for studying ubiquitin signaling pathways, substrate recognition mechanisms, neurodevelopmental disease biology, and targeted protein degradation.
